BYD Energy Storage System Appeared in United Nations Climate Change Conference in Doha

The photovoltaic-storage-diesel test project undertaken by GreenGulf and Chevron is settled down in Qatar Science and Technology Park, and the ribbon-cutting ceremony was held during the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Doha on December 2,2012.

Qatar Science and Technology Park is the first free trade zone permitted by the country. It covers an area over 1000 hectares in Doha. The commercial and technical exploration is mainly in 4 fields: energy, environment, health science, information and communication technology.

BYD energy storage system is the first 500kWh energy storage project built in Qatar. This system is used for storing solar energy and energy from diesel generator, and is capable of providing on-grid and off-grid modes, and functions of regulating voltage and frequency.

This energy storage system is built in a 40” shipping container, equipped with independent environment control module, converter, transformer and battery module. The overall efficiency of the system is 89% AC-DC-AC, and total harmonic distortion is less than 3%.

Omran Hamad Arles Kuwari, CEO of GreenGulf, said: BYD’s high-efficiency energy storage system is an interesting and promising product. We’re expecting to test its application performance with our most advanced equipment.” Carl Atala, the General Manager of Chevron Qatar company, said in a launch of relevant test devices: “Chevron is dedicated to helping satisfy global energy demand and protect human being and environment. This project supports the Qatar’s target, consolidates the sustainable application of new energy through research of solar energy and energy efficiency technologies, and at the same time keeps our promise to sustainable development.”

LI Ke, Senior Vice President of BYD, said that: BYD is glad to cooperate with GreenGulf and Chevron in environment-friendly energy storage and application of renewable energy generation. We’re honored that they chose BYD's lithium-ion ferrous phosphate battery system.” BYD has finished the installation of over 100MW energy storage power stations all over the world, including Chevron’s largest CERTS-based ESS project in USA.
